Review: Billu

Director: Priyadarshan

Starring: Irrfan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Lara Dutta

Year: 2009

Genre: Drama

Rated: PG

Length: 114 min.

IMDB Summary: Based in Budbuda, Uttar Pradesh, Billu Vilas Pardesi barely makes a living as a barber. Then everything changes when Bollywood actor Sahir Khan makes an appearance to film a movie in the town.

Review:
With enough drama, humor, singing and dancing to go around, Billu is a fun and rewarding movie to watch. Irrfan Khan's acting is superb and complemented by Lara Dutta's. This movie skillfully captures a village mentality, where everyone knows each other and rumors spread like wildfire. Although the long Bollywood sequences with Shah Rukh Khan were annoying to say the least, this movie is worth the watch if only for Irrfan Khan's brilliant acting and the strategic attention paid to the village as a character of its own.

For Parents:
Some sensuality in the dance sequences, which--in all honesty--are so tedious and useless to the plot that they can be skipped.

My Rating:
****
