Review: Serendipity

Director: Peter Chelsom

Starring: John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale

Year: 2001

Genre: Romance

Rated: PG-13

Length: 93 min.

IMDB Summary: A couple reunite years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they'd end up together.

Review:
A cheesy but endearing plot involving love and destiny. The two stars, Cusack and Beckinsale, have wonderful chemistry onscreen, as he portrays the logical, scientifically-minded male lead and she the spontaneous, starry-eyed female lead. That said, the music is very sappy and detracts from the movie. The screenwriters also fell back on some cliches that stunted the characters' development. Although I didn't like this movie as much as I'd hoped, I still recommend it as a fun, lighthearted chick flick.

For Parents:
There is an awkward sex scene between Beckinsale's character and another man that was totally unnecessary to the light romance plot. In all honesty, it's worth skipping.

My Rating:
***
